Hi there. I am Jo. I have always been interested in psychology and have worked in the NHS for 30 years as a nurse and a midwife. During this time I often felt that people could benefit from listening and being listened to more, which can be a challenge in our busy lives today. When this doesn’t happen, it can sometimes cause a sense of loneliness or of being unheard.
I know how hard it can be to come to the first counselling session. Please know that I will meet you wherever you are emotionally. It is your space and time to share as much or as little as feels comfortable to you. There will be no pressure from me. I will walk alongside you with empathy and openness whilst you explore how you are feeling.
You are the only person who truly knows how you feel!
I follow the person centred approach to counselling with one of the central themes being that I offer unconditional positive acceptance of all my clients. The aim of this is to support you to express whatever it is you are thinking or feeling with the reassurance that there is no judgement from me.
My interests and experiences in work and as a client in counselling myself has led me to train as a counsellor. I am now about to begin my final year of my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and as a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) I work to their ethical principles and standards.
I am genuinely there with you during our sessions. I provide a calm, safe and confidential space for you to explore your choices and feelings.
